Intro

For a vehicle to go faster, it needs a balance of both lightness and added power, something that the 2018 McLaren 720S seems to be striving for. The new model not only offers more speed, the power-to-weight-ratio has also been improved. Let’s go over the details and see what this vehicle is able to offer drivers.

Exterior

The 2018 McLaren 720S’s new Monocage II tub now features carbon fiber that consists of the vehicle’s windshield surround and then continues through the car’s center roof section, allowing for better structural integrity. Furthermore, the ‘composite greenhouse components’ also play a role in reducing weight when compared to previous models that featured aluminum pillars and a windshield header.

You will also notice the absence of the side air intakes that were present in the 650S. The 720S ends up having a sleeker yet muscular design without them. Instead of the side air intakes, a well-designed channels (next to the car’s rear windows) keep the engine and radiators cool. The headlight apertures are darker. Along with lighting elements, they also incorporate air intakes. Furthermore, it has lower sills and the doors open wider (with a top hinge) for easy entry.

The rear features a full-width wing that provides extra downforce at speed being deployed at a 30-degree angle. Take note that it flips to 80-degrees in order to act as an airbrake to provide aid in stabilizing the car while under heavy braking.

Interior

The interior of the 2018 McLaren 720S is impressive. Not only is the cabin stylish, it is also functional. However, it might not come across as flashy when compared to other similar cars. The visibility is also up to the mark due to thin front pillars. The C-pillars are glazed and get rid of over-the-shoulder blind spots. You’ll also notice the simplification of the switchgear. The climate controls are located at the central touchscreen, having been moved away from the doors. The sensitivity of the touchscreen can become a bit of an issue for some drivers.

The new digital instrument panel featured in the 2018 McLaren 720 S, while in Track mode, tends to flip flat and tuck itself away to provide you with a thin screen that displays the gear that has been selected, speed, and engine rpm. Furthermore, the steering is electrohydraulically assisted. You’ll find the standard seats to be comfortable, however, the adjustment switches could’ve been designed better.

Features

The 2018 McLaren 720S standard equipment includes a Bowers & Wilkins audio system and climate control. You can customize the interior by selecting the carbon fiber, Alcantara, and Bridge of Weir leather trim you want. The vehicle also has an eight-inch infotainment screen that provides access to media, audio, media, navigation controls, and other features. When it comes to the vehicle’s upholstery you can either go for black or black and Scoria Grey.
